What is a Claude Project?

A saved workspace inside Claude that already knows your company. You load it once with your context and your instructions, and every chat you start inside it begins smart instead of from zero.

You have pasted the same three paragraphs about your business into a chat window forty times this month. Who your customers are, what your margins look like, the tone you write in. Every fresh chat forgets all of it the second you close the tab, so you re-explain yourself from scratch, every time. A Claude Project is the fix: a container where that context lives permanently, so you set it up once and never re-paste it again.

What it is (in plain English)

A Project is a folder inside Claude with two things attached to it: files and instructions.

The files are your context. Drop in your pricing sheet, your last board deck, ten of your best LinkedIn posts, your brand guide, a P&L export. The instructions are the standing orders: "You are my finance analyst. Always answer in plain English. Never invent a number I did not give you."

Now every conversation you start inside that Project already has all of it loaded. You open a chat and just ask "draft a reply to this customer" or "what changed in the numbers this month," and Claude answers using your files and your rules without you re-explaining anything. It is the difference between briefing a brand-new contractor every single morning and walking into a room where your chief of staff already knows the whole picture.

It is not the same as the model's training. The model was trained on the public internet and has never seen your company. The Project is how you hand it your reality, the same way RAG does under the hood, except you set it up by dragging files into a box, no engineering required.

Why CEOs care

Because the quality of an AI answer is mostly the quality of the context you gave it, and a Project is how you stop giving it bad context by accident.

A CEO running AI out of one-off chats gets generic, forgettable output, because each chat starts knowing nothing. A CEO running the same work out of a well-fed Project gets answers grounded in the actual business, in a consistent voice, every time. Same model. Wildly different result. The Project is where the leverage compounds: every file you add makes every future answer sharper.

It is also the unit you build your team's AI on. A shared Project for your sales team with your ICP and your best call notes. One for finance with your chart of accounts and your reporting format. One for you personally with your goals and your writing samples. You are not teaching people to prompt better. You are handing them a workspace that is already smart about your company, so the floor on quality is high before anyone types a word.

One thing to get right early: keep sensitive files in a business plan, not a personal one. What goes into a Project on a consumer account is governed by consumer data rules. Read is your data safe in AI before you load anything you would not want leaked.
